About us
The Sioux Falls Children’s Choir is a nonprofit organization, which consists of three performance and education oriented choral groups open to young singers with unchanged voices in grades K through 6. “Coro Crescendo” (Growing Choir) includes singers in grades K through 1, “Coro Dulce” (Sweet Choir) includes singers in grades 2 through 3 and “Coro Allegro” (Joyful Choir) includes singers in grades 4 through 6. Our goal is to offer young musical talents an opportunity to receive well-rounded, high-quality choral training complemented with performance experiences in a variety of community events. Our choir has performed with multiple ensembles throughout the years, including the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra in April of 2019 and the band, Foreigner, at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in 2024. This year, Coro Allegro had the honor of being selected to sing at the South Dakota Music Educators Association Conference in Sioux Falls.
Each of our choirs’ season is divided into fall and spring sessions, culminating in a concert for friends and family. The choirs perform a wide variety of repertoire, ranging from classical to contemporary. In addition to learning to read music and music theory, the choirs also offer an enriching social experience through friendships and an opportunity to instill discipline and hard work. Learn more about the goals of each choir below.
The Sioux Falls Children’s Choir hopes to provide the Sioux Falls community a source of pride in the talents and achievements of our youth and to help our members grow into lifelong proponents of the arts and music.
Meet our directors
Kaela Schuiteman, Executive and Artistic Director, Director of Coro Dulce and Coro Allegro
Kaela Schuiteman holds a B.M. in Music Education with honors and endorsements in choral and instrumental music from the University of South Dakota. She currently performs with Transept, a professional choral ensemble in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Previously, Kaela has performed with the South Dakota Symphony Chorus, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral as a soloist for weddings and funerals, and with Vocal Artists of Iowa. Kaela also teaches private voice and piano lessons.
In addition to her passion for performing, Kaela finds immense joy in sharing the unique power of music with students of all ages. Kaela has several years of teaching experience that include K-12 vocal music, directing musicals, coaching speech, and teaching private piano and voice lessons. As the Executive and Artistic Director of the Sioux Falls Children’s Choir, Kaela feels incredibly fortunate to fill her evenings sharing her love of music with the talented young musicians in Sioux Falls.
Kaela lives in Sioux Falls with her husband and three children. In her spare time, Kaela enjoys taking her children to the Great Plains Zoo and the Washington Pavilion, going on dates Downtown Sioux Falls with her husband, watching the Kansas City Chiefs every Sunday (and occasionally going to a game!), and going on too many Target runs with her daughter.
Alia Robison, Coro Crescendo Director
Alia Robison is the founder and director of Music in Me, which offers small group music classes and private lessons for ages Birth-18. She also collaborates with micro schools and homeschool co-ops in the area to bring music to their students. Alia serves as the assistant choir and handbell director at her church and has been in charge of their children’s music for the past 10 years. Prior to starting Music in Me, Alia worked as a PreK-5th grade music teacher in the Harrisburg School district.
Growing up, Alia sang in the Sioux Falls Girls Chorale for many years. Through that experience, alongside other musical endeavors, she became confident that she wanted to spend her life sharing her love for music with the community. In college, she had an internship with the Vermillion Children’s Choir and the United Church of Christ’s Children’s Choir. She was a four year member of the USD Chamber Singers and has sang with Transept since its inception in 2016.
Alia is a homeschooling mom of three young kids. Her family enjoys traveling, snowboarding & skiing, rock climbing, and eating ice cream.
